The aircraft was on its final approach to Muan International Airport when it skidded off the runway and collided with a concrete barrier, leading to a catastrophic fire. Preliminary reports suggest that the landing gear was not deployed during the landing attempt. Investigators are exploring the possibility that a bird strike caused a hydraulic failure, which may have contributed to the malfunction of the landing gear.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong of Australia also conveyed her sympathies, stating, "Australia's thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victims and their loved ones."
